>> PUBLISHER'S NOTE

Hallooooo there dear devoted readers! Welcome to 2002! I hope that each and every one of you had a joyful and happy-filled holiday in spite of the dreadful year we've emerged from. And, I hope you all had an opportunity to take off much-needed time to recuperate and recharge for what I think will be an amazing year. Hence, my new motto: "2002. The year all your dreams come true." So get out there and go for it!

Like many of you that I've spoken to, I too have been re-emphasizing the importance of balance in my life and have taken advantage of the slowdown in the tech scene to enjoy other artistic pursuits left in the dust when the dot-com train came rolling in. So you may notice some seemingly unrelated event write-ups, but honestly, great ballet, opera, art and other cultural entertainments are vital to the life-spirit. And, since we focus on the people behind the technology, dipping into soul-fulfilling endeavors enriches us all.

So, without further delay, I present this week's Cyber Scene--the first for 2002 and our 5th year of reporting!
