A Tribute to Stephen Hawking

Valentine's Day this year was a special day for more than the usual reasons. This year, in cooperation with The British Council USA and The UK Science & Technology Network, The Smithsonian Associates Resident Associate Program presented "A Tribute to Stephen Hawking" in the George Washington University Lisner Auditorium.

My mother and stepfather, Charlene and George Atkinson, were in attendence. Since George's career has skyrocketed him from chemistry sets in St. Petersberg, Florida, to Syracuse University to the University of Arizona, he has most recently landed on Planet Politics.

As Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State, since June 2001, he has been traveling the world and rubbing elbows with dignitaries, doling out his wisdom in a calculated manner and influencing those who need (more) influence.
