With categories like: E-Districts, E-Commerce MBA's, Networking Groups, Dot.Com Hot Spots and Non-Profits, Launch! Chicago hopes to encourage community involvement, improve access to public resources and accelerate growth of startup initiatives.

Reuters Building Turns Green
Reuters America's new headquarters building at 3 Times Square in the heart of midtown Manhattan may serve as a model for office buildings not yet built. This structure is green, smart and ready. This means that it will be 30 percent more energy efficient, able to handle current and future technology needs and ready to receive a permanent certificate of occupancy in the new millennium. The building's design also circulates a greater amount of fresh air than other office buildings and its design maximizes the use of daylight using 5-ft. window mullions. Back to Poetry
Harpo Marx at Prayer is a new collection of poems by Saul Bennett, author of New Fields and Other Stones/On a Child's Death, which won the 1999 Benjamin Franklin Silver Award. The themes of Harpo range from the awe and wonder of childhood and the dismay and shocks of young adulthood, to the experience of a child in America during the Holocaust and the continuing journey of a bereaved parent. (Paradoxically perhaps, many of the poems are humorous.) New Yorkers will love how Harpo writes about a tiny community in the borough of Queens, New York's forgotten borough in literature. Through his writing, Bennett attempts to elevate a personal history of the tiny speck of his boyhood Sunnyside, in Queens, as did Joyce with Dublin and Faulkner with his Yaknapatwpha County in Mississippi. The book is published by Archer Books (Archer-Books.com), which has submitted Harpo Marx at Prayer for Pulitzer Prize consideration.

Online Ad Business to Reach US $28 Billion by 2005
Total online advertising revenues are expected to grow to US $28 billion worldwide by 2005, up from US $4.3 billion in 1999, positioning the Internet as the first marketing medium to offer global reach, according to Jupiter Communications, Inc. However, the majority of companies that market globally will be ill-prepared to leverage the Internet to communicate with consumers worldwide. Nearly six percent of all global advertising revenue is expected to be spent on the Web by 2005. Jupiter analysts say that this growth will be driven, in part, by the rise of the online population worldwide, which will more than double within the next five years, rocketing from 300 million users today to 800 million users in 2005.

Miltos Manetas Presents Neen
"Neen stands for Neensters: a still undefined generation of visual artists. Some of them may belong to Contemporary Art, while others are software creators, web designers or videogame animators. A neenster's identity is their state of mind?" - Miltos Manetas
"Neen," a new word for the arts with the framework of technology, is a nonprofit, public service project that entered the public domain via a demonstration at Gagosian Gallery Chelsea on May 31, 2000 in New York City. Miltos Manetas approached Art Production Fund over a year ago and said, " I need a new word and the world needs this word as much as I do". He continued by saying that he couldn't wait for a critic, curator or an artist to make this word- indeed over the years he had asked many of them. This was an urgent matter that required the collaboration with a different type of professional- the same people that created the names PowerBook and Pentium. A California based company named Lexicon Branding. Sixty-seven words were finally presented to the artist Miltos Manetas and producer Yvonne Force. From this list Manetas immediately chose "neen". He said, "it is the only word I can use to describe myself, and the only one I can imagine my mother saying".

PC Week Becomes eWEEK
Going the way of the "E," PC WEEK is changing its name to eWEEK. Management says that PC WEEK was built on being the focal point of the PC revolution. The next wave is something the publication works with every day: the Internet. PC WEEK has always been a digital pioneer. Compuserve forums, Interchange, a Mosaic-based web site before Netscape was incorporated, audio and video webcasting and, most recently, online web seminars and lab testing using the Internet itself as the test bench are its heritage. Over the past 18 months, the company has aggressively developed our circulation strategy to be focused on our subscribers involvement with the Internet and eBusiness. It has restructured its news, analysis and lab groups to become the preeminent information source for companies undertaking e-commerce and Internet-based business initiatives. This project is a stealth restructuring where the final, rather than the first, step is a name change.

Final Hope For Mid-Tier Media Sites Rests with "Invisible Networks"
Get specific: that's the message of Jupiter Communications' recent survey. The Internet commerce research company found that web media sites that have yet to achieve a dominant position in their categories must change strategies and deliver more focused content while joining "invisible networks,"--those that allow them to aggregate multiple audiences for advertisers and retailers. The research showed that almost half of US online consumers prefer more targeted affinity/genre sites over general-purpose portals, while 39 percent of those consumers gravitate towards familiar off-line brands. Jupiter surveyed approximately 1,500 online consumers on the way in which they selected their online media source, 46 percent of respondents indicated a preference for more specialized sites. Twenty-six percent liked sites focused on a single topic or genre, such as sports or health, whereas 11percent favored affinity sites that cater to a given audience, such as young families or boomers.
