With categories like: E-Districts, E-Commerce MBA's, Networking Groups, Dot.Com Hot Spots and Non-Profits, Launch! Chicago hopes to encourage community involvement, improve access to public resources and accelerate growth of startup initiatives.

Reuters Building Turns Green
Reuters America's new headquarters building at 3 Times Square in the heart of midtown Manhattan may serve as a model for office buildings not yet built. This structure is green, smart and ready. This means that it will be 30 percent more energy efficient, able to handle current and future technology needs and ready to receive a permanent certificate of occupancy in the new millennium. The building's design also circulates a greater amount of fresh air than other office buildings and its design maximizes the use of daylight using 5-ft. window mullions. Back to Poetry
Harpo Marx at Prayer is a new collection of poems by Saul Bennett, author of New Fields and Other Stones/On a Child's Death, which won the 1999 Benjamin Franklin Silver Award. The themes of Harpo range from the awe and wonder of childhood and the dismay and shocks of young adulthood, to the experience of a child in America during the Holocaust and the continuing journey of a bereaved parent. (Paradoxically perhaps, many of the poems are humorous.) New Yorkers will love how Harpo writes about a tiny community in the borough of Queens, New York's forgotten borough in literature. Through his writing, Bennett attempts to elevate a personal history of the tiny speck of his boyhood Sunnyside, in Queens, as did Joyce with Dublin and Faulkner with his Yaknapatwpha County in Mississippi. The book is published by Archer Books (Archer-Books.com), which has submitted Harpo Marx at Prayer for Pulitzer Prize consideration.

Orb Gets Big Bucks
ORB Communications &Marketing, Inc., just got a big boost from eVentures Group Inc. Of course, the Internet marketing and technology services company that tracks and optimizes transactions in real-time had to give something up -- like a 25% stake in the company. Orb has a client base that includes Citigroup, e-Citi, mySEASONS.com, Nano, Coty USA, TIME, Blue Dingo, and leading Web Advertisers. It was founded by Andrew S. Pakula, Chief Executive Officer, and Laura Berland, Executive Vice President, in 1996. They plan to use the eVentures investment, the first by an outside entity, to expand marketing and sales efforts, increase service support and expand technology development.

FEED Studies City Life
In its edgiest special issue yet, FEED (www.feedmag.com) immerses readers in city life with a collection of essays and interviews designed as a launching point for other urban explorations. "Street Level," the 10th special issue from the acclaimed online magazine, debuted last week. As fascinating to explore as a city itself, "Street Level" will offer up a feast of urban studies. Six noted journalists will ruminate on a single block in their respective cities; a panoramic "walking tour" will accompany each from Berlin, London, Singapore, Los Angeles, and Warsaw. "Street Level" will also feature an annotated list of metropolitan web cams, providing direct, live access to the pageantry -- varying hugely in scope and style -- of 20 cities worldwide. The special issue also features traditional essays in FEED's vein of provocative, witty, and thoughtful social and cultural criticism. Among them: Erik Baard, Andrey Slivka and Geoff Dyer.
