Webby Cocktails

Hi Folks, Just a quickie to say we've got pics from the Webby's cocktail party for new and old judges in the Great Room at the Union Square W on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007. My Photos and theirs, which could be retitled ''Recognition Media's Neil Vogel and Friends.

It was sponsored by dotmobi for the new mobile category and there was plenty of witty banter to go around (as well as tasty hors d'oeuvres). I enjoyed talking with dotmobi's CEO Neil Edwards, marketing & bizdev VP Alexa Raad and director of PR & communications Vance Hedderel and learning about their future plans.

BrandBuzz's creative director Hillary Evans and associate director of Interactive Gwynne Gauntlett and I chatted about changes at Young & Rubicam's interactive division and I learned that apparently 10-year old gossip still exists there! Gucci's Desirée Persson and Niels Meersshaert were quickly learning the who's who (and who were the judges in their category). BusinessWeek's Spencer Ante told me about his upcoming book and the Webby's David-Michel Davies made sure to work the room while Recognition Media's Neil Vogel worked it with his usual posse of lanky beauties on either side. Stay tuned for more webby news!

BTW, if you want to get any prints of the photos--Fotki.com offers such an incredibly low price and the easiest ordering system I've seen for this service! Just $.09 a photo!

Courtney Pulitzer's Cyber Scene ~ 1/19/07

Greetings Cyber Scenesters!  Here is this week's edition --
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDt2G1P_G8E)

And the details:
* Some days are Red-Letter days and some are Yellow Star days!  Wednesday, January 17th was a Yellow Star day--I got my Yellow Star from ebay. Yea! I am a good 'lil shopper (and buyer)!

* Many readers know that I take women's and children's issues seriously.  So it was natural for me to attend the Girls Inc. celebration luncheon kick-off breakfast at Mutual of America's lovely ballroom on Park Avenue on Wednesday, January 10th.  After welcoming remarks from MoA Financial Advisory Services VP Virginia Kwiatkoski and Girls Inc. president and CEO Joyce M. RochÈ there were a few opening statements from several of the luncheon's honorees.

Girls Inc. has been helping our nations girls feel more confident to express their smart, strong and bold natures.  While this program is very successful, they also just published a study that reveals that girls today experience intense pressure to be everything to everyone all of the time.  Following in the footsteps of the 80s SuperMom, "The Supergirl Dilemma: Girls Grapple with the Mounting Pressure of Expectations" shows how girls are particularly frustrated with the growing expectations that they should please everyone, be very thin, and dress "right."  And while stereotypes about girls' leadership capabilities and math and science abilities have diminished, persistent gender stereotypes and escalating stress levels limit girls' potential and undermine their quality of life.  So.  We still have work to do.  If you care about this subject, I encourage you to attend the celebration luncheon on March 20th.

* It's not often this reporter ventures to Brooklyn, but when I do I'm always excited about the adventure that lies ahead.  Held at the Brooklyn Borough Hall, the Brooklyn Junior League hosted an informational session about their innovative Court School program.  Designed by the Junior League of Brooklyn for the Brooklyn Child Advocacy Center, this program help prepare child victims of sexual abuse on what to expect when they appear in court.

After an informative introduction by one of the BJL volunteers, Ilana Sussman of the NYC Law Department provided more details and answered questions.  Utilizing a cute floppy Teddy Bear named Carey, children learn in a group setting about this daunting event.  Together, in a friendly and fun setting, they learn about terms used in court, the roles various people play, how to behave when certain actions are being conducted and to always feel comfortable telling the truth and to say "I don't know," if they don't know the answer to a question.

This program is not restricted to just children in Brooklyn so please spread the word to your various police precincts, churches and other law agencies!

Creative Good's 10th Anniversary

Well folks, I'm happy today. That's news enough, wouldn't you say?! ;)
And to top it off, last night was a fabulous Silicon Alley Reunion-type party! It was Creative Good's (CG) 10th Anniversary (http://creativegood.com/) and what a "good" party it was. The nicest thing was that, because the co-founders are such nice people, their employees are too and only the nicest people in the Alley (and beyond) were invited. Yeah, that's right, that means if you didn't get invited--or didn't attend--then you're not a nice person. You know who you are! Alright, I'm kidding, but it was a nice party.

So, I started off with all this nice-ness by seeing Creative Good co-founder Mark Hurst, who pointed out his lovely wife (across the room) and proudly announced that he'll also be a father soon! He was chatting with Improv Everywhere's (http://improveverywhere.com/) Charlie Todd and Charlie's girlfriend Cody. Then I bandied about with Todd Varon of the Blue Cross et al and Henry Bator III of Berkshire Builders & Remodelers, both visiting from Virginia. Former CG employee and current JPMorgan associate Alex Bergmann and I also caught up. He's probably known me the longest of anyone at the party since we went to high school together.

Also schmoozing were Cnet's Daphne Kis, Frette's Cecilia Pagkalinawan, Mission Assurance Corporation's Henry Bar-Levav and attorneys Jerry Goldman and Frederick Salek. If you're in the mood for a good cuppa joe in Williamsburg, head on over to Fred's son's joint "Verb Café" or around NYU to "Think." Mention Fred and you'll get a free coffee (or not!). Vfinity's Mark Chackerian and I, who hadn't seen each other in nearly a decade, chatted about current activities and NYC biking tactics.

Well, after all that schmoozing, Digital Pulp's John Bachir and I sampled some hors d'oeuvres during the CG video presentation of their reminisces. Of course, after sampling a small handful of chocolate-covered cacao beans, we were wired...and headed over to the band-set up so I could belt out some Nancy Sinatra before getting a picture of co-founder Phil Terry with his mother and niece. CG financial director Allison Young and her band promptly took over and more soothing Latin tunes ensued.

Based on the size of the party, the niceness and enthusiasm of the guests, I predict another good 10-years for Creative Good!

Working Mother Media acquires another!

An other exciting news piece is Working Mother Media has acquired Public Affairs Group from NBC Universal, a division of GE. PAG is a Washington D.C. based organization founded by Edie Fraser that supports corporate diversity, business women and corporate communications. We are very excited about the work being done by PAG's divisions--Diversity Best Practices, Business Women's Network and Best Practices in Corporate Communications

Welcome 007!

I can say I've truly experience global warming on another level this year. I was in Tucson, AZ for Christmas and it SNOWED there! I noticed that the temperature in Tucson (daytime AND nighttime) was nearly exactly what it was in New York City. And this week, with temperatures in the 50s - 60s, well... all I can say is my heart is going out to all the polar bears, penguins and all forms of life that this climatic change is affecting.

While there, I spent a lovely sunny afternoon (the only one) hanging out with some other New Yorkers. Nick Boris (http://whitenoise.com/) (of ABC) and his lovely wife Elizabeth (a massage therapist at Canyon Ranch) came up to my parents home on Redington Ranch with their Bronx-based friend Alexis (MD-student and photographer) along with Tery Spartao (dailyeats.com). After sunning, we drove for an hour across town to the J.W. Marriot Starr Pass resort with an equally stunning view as my parents house! We froze outside, gathered around gas fire-pits, as we munched on chips and salsa and b-b-q'd spare ribs. Tery and I had hot chocolates and coffee to warm up while the others tried alcohol as the heating-agent (or numbing agent, as it were). Then we trekked upstairs to the restaurant Primo for some lovely dishes. Tery and I split the Niman Ranch steak salad, country salad and bouillabaisse. We were joined by a wonderful man who works for NPR and his wife who's in charge of Tucson's film festival and their son, who's studying film direction at Emerson.

Of course we took pictures!

Snowy Tuscon!

And, the New Year's Eve wanderings...

And then...the most exciting first moment of the year for me-- cooking and eating my New Year's traditional dish--Hoppin John, a southern tradition. If you'd like a good laugh, check out my own version of a cooking show -- and if you have the patience, I promise the finale is just as funny as the ''burning'' middle moment! Video /\ Popcurrent

Bachir's Limey-Crepe

Okay, now here's my friend John Bachir preparing a delicious topping for a crepe, utilizing his mother's technique:
